- Register
for the Oct. and Nov. SAT Reasoning Test or Subject Tests.
- Register
for the Oct. ACT.
- Review
your transcript.
- Narrow
down your list of colleges to between 5 and 10. Be sure your list includes “SAFE” schools as well as “REACH”
schools.
- Request
private college applications for early decision.
- Visit
College Board online to practice the SAT question of the day.
- Meet
with college representatives who visit the Career Center this fall.
- Take
advantage of the college preview days.
- Continue
to survey scholarship opportunities: register for FastWeb.com, visit the
Career Center and check the Scholarship Bulletin.
- Create
a unique e-mail account to use for college correspondence.
October 2005
- October
1 begins the CSU application filing period.
- October
5 at 5 pm: Attend “Learn How to Fill Out Your UC and CSU
Applications.” CSU presentation is
in the library and UC presentation is in the CAC.
- Oct 5
at 6:15 pm: Attend College Night at CHS.
- Request
or print out applications from out of state and private four-year colleges
and universities by visiting their websites.
- Begin
to write a personal statement that is needed for the UC application.
- Ask
counselors and teachers to read essays.
- Complete
early decision and early action applications.
- Update
and/or fill out your brag sheet.
Ask parents to fill out a parent brag sheet.
- If
needed, request teacher and counselor recommendations (always give teachers and counselors at
least 2 weeks).
- For
letters of recommendation, follow guidelines on the letter of recommendation
checklist.
- Register
for the December SAT Reasoning or Subject tests.
- Register
for the December ACT.
- Review
the Scholarship Bulletin to stay up to date on scholarship opportunities.
November 2005
- Nov
1-30 is the application filing period for all UC campuses.
- CSU
applications are due Nov 30.
- Register
for the December ACT by the Nov 4 deadline. Last test sitting for seniors.
- Remember
that high schools close over the holidays, so get applications done early
to meet January deadlines.
- Make
sure your SAT/ACT scores are sent to the colleges you apply to.
- See
Mrs. Dolkas, Registrar, for an official transcript if you are applying to
colleges that require one.
- Nov. 1st,
8th, 15th, 29th : UC/CSU application
workshops during lunch and after school.
December 2005
- Go
online to pin.ed.gov and get a pin number for you and a parent for the
Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Research
scholarship opportunities through all possible resources (Career Center,
Internet, Private Scholarships, Colleges and the Scholarship Bulletin.
- Have a
safe and restful holiday!
January 2006
- Jan 5th
: Attend Financial Aid Night at CHS in the CAC.
- Complete
the financial aid application (FAFSA).
The FAFSA can be filed after January 1, 2006 and no later than
March 2, 2006.
- Complete
the GPA Verification Form to qualify for Cal-Grants. January 1, 2006 through March 2, 2006
is the filing period.
- Visit
collegeboard.com for information on financial aid.
- Continue
to research scholarship opportunities.
- Beware
of deadlines for private scholarships.
- Mid-year
reports and/or official transcripts with first semester grades may be
required by some colleges.
February 2006
- Be
sure all necessary materials have been sent to your chosen colleges.
- Don’t
get senioritis; colleges want to
see strong second semester grades.
- Begin
looking for acceptance notification from the CSU system.
March 2006
- Be
sure all colleges have received all the materials needed to make a
decision.
- Continue
searching for scholarship opportunities.
- The
Universities of California will mail acceptance letters March 1-30.
- Apply
for Staff Awards
- Complete
community college applications this month, following the procedure
specified for the campus you plan to attend and take placement exams. www.palomar.edu, www.miracosta.edu. Attend the Mira Costa College
orientation and presentation.
April 2006
- Prepare
for May AP examinations, if applicable.
- Review
college acceptances; perhaps revisit your top choices.
- Review
financial aid packages; talk with college financial aid officers.
- Return
student intent to register (SIR) forms to the college you plan to attend.
May & June 2006
- Take
AP examinations. Make sure your
scores are mailed to your college.
- Keep
up the academic momentum.
- Thank
teachers who wrote recommendations.
- Graduate
from Carlsbad High School.
- Request
a final transcript to be sent to the college you will attend by completing
your senior checkout sheet.
