CHS automatic protections
(return to Tech. Support page or CHS home page)
Limiting viruses and hackers means limiting inappropriate Internet site access.
There are two distinct issues that our computers are programmed to deal with:
1) email viruses and
2) flaws in a Microsoft product that allow hackers/viruses to bypass the normal anti-virus program
1) We use Norton Anti-Virus to will help deal with the email virus danger. It can't stop junk email ("spam") from being sent to you, but it will check them for virus infection. Suspect email is then either repaired or quarantined (so it can't spread). CHS uses a server-based version of Norton. It automatically goes to Norton's parent company (Symantec) and searches for updated virus definitions. When found, they are quickly downloaded to all CHS computers. You can do your part by deleting all suspect email (usually has an attachment) on a daily basis.
2) Flaws in Microsoft products are solved by Microsoft on a weekly basis. They post the solutions (free) at their web site (www.microsoft.com) under the link called Windows Updates. All CHS systems have been programmed to go to their site on a daily basis and load any new updates onto your system. Most updates will install themselves. A few my ask you for confirmation before installing them...a re-boot of your system may be required.
