Virus precautions
(return to Tech. Support page or CHS home page)
To protect your SCHOOL COMPUTER(s) it is vital that neither staff nor students NOT download unverified software from the Internet. Music and demo software are prime hosts for viruses.
Students often want to download small games, screen savers, music, etc. at CHS. This is because they are not allowed to do this at home! CHS has a written Internet/technology policy that forbids such activity at school.
Viruses can easily be transmitted via a floppy disk, but Norton Anti-Virus will automatically scan floppies when they are accessed by a computer. So its okay to let students bring in work they did on their home computer.
Something you can do is to have Norton to perform a full-system scan every few months...its not automatic.
A full-system scan will go through you hard disk using all of those new virus codes that have been downloaded. It just might catch something that got on to your computer before a cure was created!
For YOUR HOME COMPUTER, be sure that you have an anti-virus program running and updating regularly (you probably have to renew this service yearly).
You should check your home computer for some of the most damaging viruses by linking to our Virus Fixes page and downloading all available software.
